Factory Investigations

Factory Investigation is an extremely specialised form of investigation and there are very few companies or individuals within the UK able to deal with this type of enquiry.

Many companies are now using Far Eastern factories to supply goods to British retailers and ultimately consumers. Where exactly are these goods coming from? How are they produced? What are the social conditions like for the workers and their families? There are many reputable and hi-tech factories in countries like China that have conditions that far exceed European standards, but for every good factory there are many that fall well below the acceptable criteria.

Trust Investigations can deal with many different enquiries from a range of sources:

Retailers/Importers: You may use an importer or import from factories direct, but do not have the time or resources to keep a check on every factory that is used in the long line of the manufacturing process, or to maintain them on a regular basis. This can lead to product defects resulting in expensive recalls that could ultimately cost millions of pounds to rectify and do everlasting damage to your image.
Of course, it is not just about where the product is put together, but also where the components originate from, such as metal tubing, screws or fabrics. The ability to control all of these factories can be exhausting.
We can maintain annual audits on all of the manufacturing process, from IQC to production line sampling, and with your consent enter factories at short notice to keep check on the working conditions and the quality of materials used.
Your reputation could be severely damaged by using factories that do not comply to social standards for their workers. Each retailer and importer has a responsibility towards the workers who make the products that produce their profits. We can audit factories for social compliance and ethical trading and give recommendations for improvement if needed.
You may possibly lack experience with quality control procedures and factory auditing. We can audit and supply reports for you that will help you in the smooth running of your business. We are willing to accompany you to the factories and give you the basic education in what you should be looking for and adhering to.

Charities: Many charities are now importing goods for their shops. Of course these must be made to the highest ethical standard. We can audit factories for social compliance for your peace of mind.

Media/Trading Standards: Are you investigating certain unethical procedures, labour rights or faulty products but do not have the expertise or local knowledge to pursue the matter. We may be able to help with our knowledge of the area and with the many contacts that we have. It is nearly always possible to enter factories with a little persuasion or undercover work and we can report back to you on our findings.
